Nica Moura
As a Brazilian living in the United States, Nica Moura explores the idea that outsiders often perceive only the physical and stereotypical aspects of a culture. Using images and objects from a personal archive—including stock images, player selfies, and sports memorabilia from Brazilian soccer fan culture—Moura distorts these elements to create a new, perhaps satirical, narrative. Her work examines what it means to be on the edge of a culture in a time when perceptions are overstimulated and conceptions are oversaturated with images.
